▶ TL;DRPalworld 1.0 is the rare early access story with a happy ending: Pocketpair took the meme money and actually finished the game. The loop is smoother, the world is bigger, and the endgame gives all that catching and crafting somewhere to go. If you bounced off it in 2024 like I did, this is the version worth your winter evenings.
I need to open with a confession: I did not like Palworld in early access. I bought it in the January 2024 gold rush like everyone else, laughed at the machine guns for about an hour, then quietly uninstalled it once the jank and the ore grind wore me down. So take it as a genuine surprise, mine included, that Palworld 1.0 has eaten most of my week. Version 1.0 did not just finish the game. It made the game.
From Meme to Actual Game
Palworld launched into early access as a punchline: Pokemon with guns, surely a lawsuit with a release date. Forty million players later, Pocketpair shipped version 1.0 on 10 July with 27 pages of patch notes, and the numbers since have been silly: over 855,000 concurrent players on Steam in the first weekend, with recent reviews sitting around 92 percent positive. The skeptics, and I was a card-carrying one, are coming around for a reason.

+ PROS
- 72 new Pals and a proper endgame at the World Tree
- The grind finally respects your time
- Base building and automation are genuinely moreish
- Dramatically smoother than early access ever was
- Absurd value at around thirty bucks
− CONS
- Pal pathfinding still trips over ambitious bases
- Story arrives mostly through journals and text
- World Tree difficulty spike will wall casual players
- The guns-plus-cute-critters joke wears thin in long sessions
What 1.0 Actually Adds
The headline additions are the World Tree, a proper high-level endgame zone that finally gives your best team something to fail against, and the Sky Islands floating above the Palpagos Islands, which add real verticality to exploration. The Paldeck grows by 72 new Pals, the story now has an actual conclusion instead of trailing off at a raid boss, and genetic recombination lets you splice traits from legendary Pals into breeding lines. Even base builders got their wishlist: new structure sets and, at long last, water-based building that does not fight you.
