Emberville, the pixel-art action RPG from Cygnus Cross, the studio co-founded by streamer CohhCarnage, launches into early access on Steam and GOG on 27 October.

The Details

You wake in the dark inside the Vitromotus, a magical prison that appears to have no end, and fight your way out while rescuing trapped townspeople. Every expedition feeds a second game on the surface: rescued denizens return to Emberville, reopen shops, upgrade your gear, and slowly rebuild the town. The Steam page promises class-based combat with inheritable skills, weapon-bound combos on a deliberately simple two-button setup, plus farming, crafting and a customisable estate.

That Voice Cast

The date came with a cast list that reads like a BAFTA green room: Matthew Mercer, Jennifer English, Ben Starr, Doug Cockle, Amelia Tyler, Anjali Bhimani, Briana White, Elias Toufexis and Nick Apostolides, with Jane Perry narrating. Streamer LilyPichu and DJ Dillon Francis round it out. For a debut indie in early access, that is a statement of intent, and presumably a statement of budget.

Our Take

Streamer-founded studios have a patchy record, but this one has been quietly building since 2023 under CEO and lead game director Brynjar Gigja, with CohhCarnage co-directing rather than just lending his name. The Diablo-meets-Stardew pitch is squarely our kind of thing, and hybrids like this live or die on early access update cadence. Wishlist it, then judge the first month of patch notes.
