It Takes Two: Saving Their Marriage... Almost Cost Ours
It Takes Two
TL;DR
It really takes two. It's a lesson in teamwork, patience and laugher disguised as a playful adventure. The art is beautiful, the story is meaningful, and every level feels alive with creativity. Even if you don’t usually play video games, I’d strongly recommend it. It’s a joyful, emotional experience that reminds you that love really does take two.

How It All Started
My partner plays game. And he strongly recommended that WE SHOULD PLAY this game together. I casually said yes, mainly because the graphics looked so cute. Until then, I never really understood how people could spend hours and hours gaming.
I hadn’t touched a game controller since middle school, so my fingers had no idea what to do. But I thought, how hard could it be? (Famous last words.)

The Story - A Marriage on the Edge
It Takes Two begins with Cody and May, a couple on the verge of divorce. Their daughter, Rose, quietly worries about what’s happening between them. In her sadness, she turns to the mysterious “Book of Love” and creates two little dolls from scrap materials.
With her heartfelt wish, something magical (and slightly chaotic) happens: Cody and May wake up as tiny toy versions of themselves. Guided (or maybe tormented) by the overly enthusiastic Dr. Hakim, the self-proclaimed love guru, they must work together through a series of magical, surreal worlds to repair both the obstacles around them and their relationship.

You can imagine, when their journey begins, Cody and May can barely stand each other. They argue, blame one another. Every level takes them through meaningful places such as their old shed, the tree outside their home, Rose’s room, and even the memories of happier days they once shared.
As the adventure continues, their tone begins to change. Through all the challenges and teamwork, they slowly learn to listen, respect, and appreciate one another again.
Spoiler alert: that final kiss scene? Emotional, huh.
Our Experience - Chaos, Laughter, and (Almost) a Breakup
This game tested our teamwork, patience, and ability to not yell at each other. At one point, we literally had to pause - for emotional safety. Ironically, while trying to save Cody and May’s marriage, we almost needed couples therapy ourselves.
There were countless moments where I got stuck on a jump or puzzle while my partner patiently waited (and sometimes just sighed quietly).
The running joke online about “husbands waiting for their wives to jump” absolutely true.

What I Loved – The Art and Heart
The animation and visuals are stunning. There were so many moments when we both just stopped and said, “Wow, this is so cute!” or “How amazing does this look?” Every world feels like a handcrafted dream from a cozy shed and a magical garden to a snow globe and even a space-themed adventure.
Everything is dynamic, colorful, and full of little surprises. The toy-like versions of Cody and May are beyond adorable, and every scene feels alive with creativity and heart. It’s the kind of game that makes you pause just to appreciate how much love went into every tiny detail.

The story, too, was surprisingly heartfelt. It balances humor (especially whenever Dr. Hakim bursts onto the screen: at first I thought, what is this weird book man? But let’s admit it, he kind of grows on you), chaos, and emotion so well, showing that relationships take effort, patience, and teamwork…
What I really liked is that even after Cody and May rediscover their love, it doesn’t turn into something overly cheesy or forced. It feels honest like love that’s been through things, stumbled a few times, and learned to grow again.

Final Thoughts – It Really Takes Two
We started this journey as curious players and ended it as a better team (with slightly stronger thumbs). It Takes Two isn’t just a game - it’s a test of patience, laughter, and love.
If you want a game that brings you closer (and maybe drives you slightly mad), this is it.
Even if you’ve never touched a video game before, I’d still recommend it. It’s beautifully made and genuinely heartwarming - a reminder that great teamwork (and a little patience) can fix almost anything.
After we finished, I couldn’t get out of the mood. I kind of wanted to play again, but my partner said, “I’m done waiting for your silly movements.” Sadly, I can’t play it alone. Guess that’s the point.

- • Truly co-op game, the fun doubles when you play together
- • Joyful graphics and a heartwarming story that keep you smiling
- • Creative mini games and dynamic levels that never get boring
- • Great balance between adventure, puzzles and boss fight
- • You can't play it solo - it literally takes two
- • If you and your partner have very different gaming experience levels, the gap shows (and sometimes tests your patience!)
